I wish I could say that My So-Called Life is the reason that I want to write, or the reason that I want to work with teenagers but in truth the influence this show had on my very being is much simpler, and yet much more complex. Like the rest of the teenagers of the mid 90's, I wore too much plaid, felt self important and thought about everything to an obsessive degree. Is it any wonder that I was drawn to Angela Chase, the red headed rebel who was a cross between a freek and a geek?
It's amazing how many of the quotes of this show stick, how witty and heartful the dialogue and characters truly are. Even now I feel for these characters and I want to know more about them. I want to see the stories that were slated for season two. Sharon's pregnancy. Angela's relationship problems. The seperation of Patty and Graham.
I love many shows. Television obsession is not new to me. Still, there are few shows that I love as much as this single season masterpiece. Few shows that touch my heart every time I watch.
Thank you Winnie Holzman. Thank you Claire Daines.
